How hard is it to replace the existing PROM?

Fairly easy, but you must disassemble the radio and remove the VCO board.  Then you remove the old  PROM and install the MAB in its place.

Do you guarantee that the MAB will work with my MCX-100?

We guarantee that the MAB is pin for pin compatible with the 82S129 & 82S131 Proms.  It is up to you to verify the operation of your radio and to tune and align it for proper operation.

What type of memory storage device does the MAB use?

Due to space limitations inside the MCX-100, the MAB utilizes a Surface Mount 28C16 eeprom.

What do I need to program the MAB?

You will need:

  1. An eeprom programmer that can program a standard 24 pin 28C16 series eeprom

  2. Our MAB programming adapter board to convert the MAB pin out from 16 pins to 24 pins

What kind of software do I need to program the MAB?

In order to program the SAB, you can either generate the information from scratch or use one of the software packages available on the Internet.  We have tried the following software and it works with the SAB:

Why don't you sell just the PC circuit board?

Early on we sold a few of the MAB PC boards and it quickly became apparent that the purchasers did not have the skill and/or proper equipment to install and program the surface mount components used on the MAB, so we have discontinued selling unassembled boards.
